A Nakuru lady has started an initiative that will see students tour various part of the county to enable them understand the area.
Ann Kibui of Victorious Bridge International started the Beyond Classroom Initiative to encourage students to work hard.
“I was shocked that many students from Nakuru West have never been to Nakuru town centre,” notes Kibui.
Kibui targets primary school pupils whom she says are the least exposed.
“We would want to create for them a vision, something that they would be proud of. We have hence started encouraging them to perform better in their examination; we will be taking them for tour in different tourist sites in the county," said Kibui.
Kibui said that they were targeting pupils from Barut, Mogoon, Mzee Wanyama, Rhonda, Ponda Mali, Kaptwembwa and other informal settlements.
“We would like them to know that there is more in the county than the poverty they are accustomed to. This will be an eye opener to them,” says Kibui.
Kibui, who also is in charge of distributing sanitary towels to pupils, called on stakeholders in the education sector to promote the initiative.
“We would like to encourage as many students as possible to make the sky their limit,” added Kibui.
