A recent report by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission has listed Nakuru County among regions at risk of violence after the 2017 polls.
The cohesion team has listed 19 counties and now wants the government to put measures in place to avert a repeat of the 2007 violence.
It will be remembered that Nakuru, Naivasha and Molo town were regions that were worst hit by post-election chaos after the disputed 2007 presidential elections.
The report is an enough reason to reawaken Nakuru leaders to embark on a massive campaign to preach peace ahead of the next year's elections.
The leaders bear the greatest responsibility in preventing a recurrence of 2007 chaos that almost brought Nakuru to its knees.
Both elected leaders and the clergy must caution residents on the need to maintain peace.
Nakuru can't afford to again go the 2007 way if it is to remain prosperous.
The healing wounds of 2007 skirmishes must not be opened in any way, they must be allowed to fully heal.
