The ban was announced by Deputy President William Ruto who said he had directed the relevant government agencies to effect the ban.

Speaking in Kuresoi South, Nakuru leaders said the ban was welcome in order to save the Mau forest water tower.

"We know who have destroyed Mau forest. And it is a good move to ban logging because even those who benefit from it come from far areas," nominated MP Gideon Keter said.

Nakuru Deputy Governor Erick Korir also supported the ban. He said the ban is in line with Governor Lee Kinyanjui's agenda on environmental conservation.

The leaders spoke during the homecoming ceremony of Gideon Keter.
