A youth lobby group in Nakuru is urging the Governor Kinuthia Mbugua and his county government to use foreign tours opportunities to lure more investors in the county with focus set on increasing employment opportunities for the local youth. The Chairman of Mariakani Youth Group Benson Karani was apprised of the situation when addressing a public forum on youth employment at Mariakani business center today. According to the youth leader, the county government executive and even the county assembly were in a better position to reach foreign investors and stir their interest for the county however the opportunity is not being used optimally. “We are aware that our governor and his county executives are now and then involved in foreign trips but they are not reaping all the benefits that come with these trips. They also host multiple foreign dignitaries in their offices and meetings. We must tell them that they are letting us down because such opportunities are supposed to benefit members of the public. They should lobby for foreign investors in Nakuru so that our youth can secure jobs,’’ said Karani. According to the youth leader foreign investors were many and willing to invest in the county and country at large but are not being adequately engaged. He noted that foreign investors willing to partner or invest in youth oriented projects like craft, entertainment, sports, tourism and agro-business were overwhelming but government officials are rarely approaching them.
