Speaking on Friday morning during their monthly meeting at the Menengai Social Hall, the Nakuru Luo Association said that it was saddened by what was going on in Homabay and accused politicians of inciting youths into violence.

Through their spokesperson, Daniel Nyandiegi, the association called on the people of Homabay to exercise political tolerance and respect the democratic views of each person.

“What is happening in Homabay is saddening especially in this century we are living in. The politicians have failed to instil political discipline in their followers and are instead inciting them to engage in violence. Political leaders must allow people to exercise their democratic right without intimidations or nay form of violence,” said Nyandiegi.

Nyandiegi added that the ugly scenes of violence being witnessed in Homabay are ruining the image of the entire Luo community and warned that other communities will shy away from the lakeside community should they not abandon their culture of intolerance.

“What we are seeing in Homabay is affecting the entire Luo nation and if our people cannot change then one day we will remain an isolated community,” he said.

The ongoing senatorial by-elections in Homabay have attracted with scenes of violence from youths supporting candidates from rival camps of Cord candidate Moses Kajwang and Philip Okundi on the Maendeleo party ticket candidate.
