A Nakuru resident on Wednesday offered to transport four dogs purchased by the county government of Laikipia to help beef up security in the cattle rustling prone area.
Despite the criticism the county government of Laikipia faced for spending millions on purchasing the dogs, Ben Wanjohi told the press that it was shameful to hear that there were allegedly no funds to transport the dogs from the Rift valley police dog headquarters in Nakuru where they were being trained.
Wanjohi said that as a victim of insecurity in Laikipia, he found it wise to offer help to the county government in order to avoid wasting more funds in feeding the dogs.
“Though purchasing the dogs was not a priority for the county considering the ravaging hunger in the area, it will only be prudent to transport them to Laikipia to reduce the cost that is increasing day by day,” he said.
He however expressed concerns over the alleged cost of feeding the dogs terming it as unrealistic.
It is said that each dog cost Sh 185,000 and it will cost the county government of Laikipia Sh 100,000 per month to feed the four dogs.
Police said they will finish training the dogs in January.
