In a memorandum presented to Governor Kinuthia Mbugua last year, the veterans want the County Government, through the lands docket, to liaise with the proprietor of Kinoru farm in Karunga, Bahati with a view to setting aside a portion of the land for construction of a monument.

Led by the spokesman of the Rift Valley Council of elders Gilbert Kabage, the veterans said that Kinoru farm was used as a screening site for Maumau fighters by the colonial government.

“We have not seen any progress despite Governor Mbugua directing the county lands minister Racheal Maina to take up the matter, this  is why we want her to take up the issue seriously because  we are willing to source for funds to purchase the portion should the proprietor offer it for sale,” said Kabage.

Efforts to reach Racheal for comment were futile as she could not be reached on phone.
