Waithuki says that traders from Kajiado and Narok Counties are working in cahoots with provincial administration to push out local youth from benefiting from sand harvesting sites.

Speaking on Tuesday at Naivasha after meeting a group of youth involved in sand harvesting sites in Maa Maahiu, Waithuki said that he would fight tooth and nail to defend the sites from external invasions.

“We will not allow aliens to come to take our youth’s bread baskets. We will use all efforts to defend the sites,” said Waithuki.

Waithuki said the sites have created job opportunities for ten youth groups which comprise over 300 local youth.

“The sites have offered empowerment opportunities to over 300 youth and any effort to push them out will be met by determined effort,” said Waithuki.

He says that the sites have been instrumental in reducing crime among the local youth.

“The cases of crime at Naivasha and adjacent areas have dropped significantly due to the presence of these sand harvesting sites,” said Waithuki.

Waithuki urged the ‘aliens’ to remain in their counties and exploit the resources their counties have.

He however denied reports that some youth have been bribed by the ‘aliens’ to allow them easy entry to the sites.
