A member of the Nakuru county assembly now wants the county government to establish a special fund that will see all Persons Living With Disabilities (PLWD) in the county get a monthly stipend similar to the one being given to elderly persons by the national government.
Kiamaina ward MCA Isaac Wahome, famously known as Jambo Kenya, said most people living with disabilities are economically disadvantaged and are struggling to live.
According to the MCA, the monthly stipend will go a long way in helping PLWDs.
“Most of these people cannot go out there and work like some of us and most have resorted to begging and this is what the county government needs to address,” he said.
“We want to ask the county government to establish a fund similar to the one of the national government where these people will be entitled to some money at the end of every month,” he added
The MCA also wants the county government to carry out a census of all persons living with disabilities in the county with the aim of coming up with a database that will help budget to facilitate the programme
Wahome has already tabled a motion in the assembly compelling the county government to offer free medical care to all persons living with disabilities in Nakuru.
