The meeting will be held at the Bomas of Kenya on the weekend of August 23-24 where a decision will be made on whether to accept or reject calls by governors for a referendum.

Governors seek to ensure that counties are allocated 45 percent of the national revenue compared to the current 15 percent minimum threshold.

Nakuru MCAs have confirmed they got invitation letters to attend the caucus whose deliberations will make or break the governors’ resolve to go through with the referendum push.

“We got the invitation letters and we will attend. We cannot turn against the government while we are the government, we ought to look back and get a solution,” said Solai MCA Paul Chebor.

A number of Nakuru MCAs have, however, not yet made up their minds on whether to attend. Those interviewed said they are yet to make a house decision.

“We are yet to take a common position whether to attend or not,” said MCA Kihara Hiuhu from Ndunduri ward. Other MCAs who are yet to decide are James Thuo, Samuel Kamau and Francis Njoroge.

Governors have allegedly already started talks with MCAs to support them in the referendum push, promising good packages in return.

Such packages include higher powers, improved allowances and car grants.

According to the MCAs, the meeting will help the forum deliberate on the way forward before a major meeting with governors in September.
