Nakuru MCAs now want the county government to allocate the Sh1.6 billion set aside to mitigate effects of El Nino rains to wards.
Mauche Ward Representative, Kipng'eno Korir said that since they are at the grassroots, MCAs understand better who is likely to be affected by the rains and it would be prudent for the county government to involve them in managing the funds.
Korir on Thursday told the assembly that the money will be utilised properly only if MCA's are allowed to manage it.
"The county government has set aside Sh1.6 billion and as representatives of areas that are likely to be affected we want to be given part of that money so that we can manage it at the ward level because we understand the ground better than the government in Nakuru," he said.
Korir added that the county assembly is afraid that the money will be squandered if it is entirely managed by county government officials.
He said MCAs will push the Kinuthia Mbugua government to allocate part of the money to the wards.
The county assembly is expected to approve a supplementary budget being proposed by the county government which includes the amount.
