A politician from Nakuru County Dr Stanley Karanja said the Kenya's political sphere has been left to the rich and poor in society as the middle class have alienated themselves and left the burden of decision making to the two groups.

This, according to Karanja, is the reason why the gap between the poor and the rich continue to widen.

“The middle class are people who should be capitalised on by leaders and let them be told the importance of their participation in regard to political decision making. These are the people who delegate their citizenry duties to the rich and poor and the outcome favours the rich and oppresses the poor,” he said Tuesday in an interview on Inooro TV.

He said most of them have got 8-5pm jobs and little time to engage in such processes.

“When the elections come and you ask them who they nominated, they say nobody because they did not bother and even at times, they do not show up for voting during elections,” he said.

He called upon the middle class to step up on their citizenry duties and actively participate since their exclusion ends up in bleeding selfish and myopic leaders whose interest is not centered on development but self gain.

In the same breath, Karanja called upon National Cohesion Integration Commission to institute punitive measures on politicians making inciting remarks.

He said the NCIC should tame all loose tongues as political temperatures are rising ahead of the 2017 general election.
