He asserted that those who will be caught contravening the regulations and traffic directives will be arrested and charged in court adding that traffic rules must be adhered to by all motorists including pedestrians and cyclists.

“We have been directed to deal firmly with motorists who are fond of contravening traffic regulations,” said Commandant Mwangi.

Mwangi said that more traffic police will be deployed along the Nakuru-Eldoret/ Nairobi Highway to enforce the rules.

He added that Public Service Vehicles (PSVs) that have their screens and windows tinted and those with excessive and  offensive graffiti on them will be grounded and those operating them taken to court.

“We also want to warn PSVs with excess graffiti that we will ground their vehicles per the directive we have received from the traffic department in Nairobi,” added Mwangi.

Mwangi at the same time urged PSV operators to exercise extra vigilance as public schools reopen on Monday saying that more traffic on roads is expected because of the school going students and children.

He said that safety of passengers should be guaranteed noting that speed guns have been erected along the Nakuru highway to monitor speeding motorists.
