National Citizen Engagement Forum-NACEF Chairman Moses Gitonga who was vying for the Gilgil Parliamentary seat has opted out and officially announced that he will go for the Murindat Ward seat in Gilgil.
In a phone interview on Thursday, Gitonga who has been on the forefront fighting for the rights of the people and ensuring good governance through Human Rights approach says he took the step as per the will of the people of Murindat, Gilgil and Nakuru County at large.
“We have been lamenting a lot on how the public funds are being mismanaged in this county. I have been pressured up to an extent of requesting me to be nominated to the County Assembly of Nakuru to safeguard the funds, but I don’t want to be nominated but to be elected and represent the people of Murindat and Nakuru at large,” he said.
With this new development, the Gilgil Parliamentary seat now will see Incumbent Nderitu Mathenge, Nominated Senator Martha Wangari, Educationist Gichuki Kenda and Businessman Gabriel Wanderi to battle it out.
Meanwhile, Gitonga also revealed that the CDF case filed at the Law courts will ensure that the funds are not channeled through the MPs but will be channeled through the county Governments conditionally.
He said the funds had been misused in some cases by the MPs hence not achieving the expected development agenda.
The Human Rights Defender also took an issue with the Nakuru County Assembly for what he termed is failure to pass the supplementary budget.
He said such acts by the County Assembly should be avoided adding that the work of the County Assembly members is to ensure resources to the common citizen.
“It really pains that even as we speak now the County Assembly has failed to pass the Supplementary budget. Why do they want to be bribed to pass the supplementary budget?” Gitonga asked.
Gitonga was speaking on Thursday during an exclusive phone interview concerning his move to opt out of the Gilgil Parliamentary seat race and going for the MCA seat Murindat ward.
