All the eleven Members of Parliament from Nakuru County want the tendering and procurement systems investigated at Gilgil National Youth Service camp.
The MPs claim there was massive corruption in the institution involving millions of shillings, and pointed an accusing finger at an ‘outspoken’ senator.
The legislators said they plan to name the senator in Parliament, after graft claims emerged when they met NYS suppliers in Gilgil, following the replacement of all the suppliers last week.
In their statement, read by Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri, the lawmakers challenged the NYS director general Nelson Githinji to respond to the allegations.
He said powerful tycoons with the help of NYS senior officers have taken over the supply of essential commodities.
“There is a cartel of well-connected businessmen who have taken over the supply of goods at the Naivasha and Gilgil NYS centres and locking out local traders,” said Ngunjiri.
The legislator claimed that a senator and several tycoons had been supplying the goods during the weekends and public holidays, which were against the county laws.
“When President Kenyatta was here, he promised that youths and women will be getting 30 per cent of government tenders, but this direct opposite what he promised here in NYS Gilgil,” he said.
But speaking separately through phone, the commandant in charge Edwin Osore denied any knowledge of the allegations.
“We have not heard on such complaints and nobody has raised the matters with us, but you can confirm from the headquarters for more information,” he said.
