Members of the Muslim community living in Nakuru Town fear of being attacked by residents who have started suspecting them of being linked to the blood thirsty Al Shabaab militia.
Led by the South Rift Council of Imams Secretary General, Sheikh Athuman Masoud and the Chairman Mugambo Hassan, they have said that their dressing code alone has made them meet hostility.
"As Muslim community here in Nakuru we are being harassed for nothing while the evil people who tarnish our religion are being left because they have power and money. We want the government to protect us," said Sheikh Masoud.
Sheikh Abdallah Swale who ministers at Naivasha Prison mosque, said that he has been forced to wear just like the other people after he was attacked with his wife last weekend on their way to a wedding in Naivasha.
"I am an Imam but I have been forced to wear normally because I can't risk being attacked again. When people see me in my robes and with my long beards they think I am a terrorist. We ask the government to ensure we are safe," said Swaleh.
