Speaking at Nyayo Gardens in Nakuru to mark the International Women’s Day, Ngina said that cultural practices such as Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and forced marriage have denied girls chance to advance their studies and development.

Mrs Ngina said that such cultural practices have no place in the modern society and that they must be fought by all means possible.

“We have embarked on a campaign to fight practices that are discriminative to women and girls,” she said.

The Nakuru MYWO chair added that they are collaborating with public and private organizations to fight such practices.

Ngina said that FGM remains a threat to development and growth of women and girls in some parts of the country.

She said that the practice has denied girls opportunity to continue with their studies and subjected them to misery.

Ngina urged the government to put in place more measures that will help curb FGM and other practices.

She said that society and communities must come together and reason on the effects of such practices and draft ways of completely eradicating them.

Ngina urged women to be on the frontline and take advantage of the opportunities being provided by the county and national government to advance their lives.
