1200 nurses from Nakuru County have threatened to down their tools if the county government fails to pay them their three months’ salary.

Led by the branch officials of the Kenya national union of nurses –KNUN, the irate nurses peacefully demonstrated up to the county headquarters where they delivered a one week strike notice to the county executive committee member for health services Dr. Jonah Manjari.

According to the nurses, despite a return to work formula signed between the union and the council of governors, Nakuru County is among 12 other counties yet to pay three months’ salary arrears for the period that they were on strike.

“We are nurses in Nakuru County, we have families but right now we cannot service loans or even pay school fees for our children” they said.

The 1200 nurses from Nakuru County have now vowed to down their tools should they have not received their salary arrears for the months of August, September and October within a period of  seven days as per the notice.

This even as Nakuru County CeC for healthy Dr. Manjari called for a meeting with union officials and seven committee members with a view to resolving the issue.
