The Nakuru police boss said Samuel Kimathi was a humble and hardworking police officer.

Kioko was speaking when he met the deceased's wife, Lydiah Makena, son Kelvin Mutugi, brothers Reuben Ntorobi and Samson Kailikia in his office on Tuesday.

Before Kimathi was attached to Muchai, he was working at Nakuru Bondeni police station.

“We have already started making burial arrangement since he will be accorded police honours,” said Kioko.

He promised to give the family the support they need during this trying period.

Kimathi’s brother, Reuben Ntorobi, said that the family met the committee organising Muchai’s burial on Monday and they agreed that his brother will be buried on Saturday.

His colleague will be buried on Monday while the driver will be buried on Tuesday.

Ntorobi pointed out that they will also be handing over his (Kimathi’s) kit to the relevant authority on Wednesday.

On her part, Makena said that she learnt of her husband’s death on Facebook, adding that he was a polite and caring husband.

Makena said she is yet to come to terms with the loss.

Kimathi, 27, died on Saturday morning together with his boss, a colleague and their driver in Nairobi gun attack.
