Six journalists escaped death narrowly after Nakuru ODM chairman Peter Ole Sono went berserk, drew his gun and started shooting at them.
The six, who were in their normal coverage activities involving the peaceful protests aimed at pushing for the re-opening of one of the roads in the area, were accosted by the guards and after some engagement, Ole Sono started shooting at them haphazardly.
It is alleged that Ole Sono has been involved in the land saga that has since left the road closed arousing public anger.
This comes barely two days after National Land Commission (NLC) chairman Mohammed Swazuri ordered the opening of the road.
“We had come to cover the event today where the members of public were to hold peaceful protests to push for the opening of the road. We were confronted by these men where the MP (Ole Sono) started shooting at us. We were forced to run for our dear lives and some other men ran after us,” testified one of the journalists from a local media house.
Policemen who arrived later calmed the situation but they allegedly took no action against the politician or his men.
“The policemen arrived later and rescued us but we were afraid that they never made any arrests. Our protest was meant to be peaceful but this politician against us,” said Moses Lemala, a member of the public.
The land in question has sparked public uproar in the recent past thus pushing for public demonstrations to reclaim it.
