Led by Roads and Transport committee chairman Ezekiah Kariuki and chief officer in charge of roads and transport Samwel Mwaura, the team is planning to borrow some ideas from the county government of Kisii and implement some of them back in Nakuru.

The delegation, which toured the county on Tuesday comprised senior engineers and members of the roads and transport committee in the county assembly to assess the solar powered street lighting.

“We want to learn from our counterparts on the best and cheap means to light up our streets. This is also in line with the need for inter-county partnerships as we all can borrow a lesson or two from each other.

"We are looking forward to implementing the best ideas in Nakuru as well and we also expect them to tour our county and borrow some of our ideas as well,” Transport committee chairman Ezekiel Kariuki said.

This is in the light of installation of over 300 solar-powered streetlights in Kisii town, which has enhanced security and provided a boost in economy of the county.

“In Nakuru, we have a street lighting programme that has a number of challenges which we hope to address using our experiences in Kisii. We are impressed by the work done by Kisii County in this area to steer development and turn the county into a 24-hour economy,” said Mwaura.

Kisii Governor James Ongwae welcomed the team and pledged to partner with them to foster development in the region.

“As counties, it is mutually beneficial to share development ideas to steer development at county and national levels. My government has implemented a solar powered street lighting project which we intend to roll out to 52 other centres across the county by the end of June,” Ongwae said.
