The county government of Nakuru has agreed to partner with National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) on road safety in a move to reduce fatalities on the Nakuru Highway.

Speaking to the press on Friday in his office after holding a meeting with NTSA officials  who paid him a courtesy call, Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui said Nakuru has been one of the most affected by accidents.

“We cannot continue to lose lives on the Nakuru Highway areas such as Kinungi and Salgaa and that is why we are partnering with NTSA to ensure that we reduce road carnage,” he said.

The agreement will see the county government and NTSA join hands to ensure road accidents are contained.

Kinyajui added that as county they will also work to ensure that emergence response systems are in place.

“As a county we are working to ensure that emergency response systems are in place having in mind that health is a devolved function. We must ensure that the victims of road accidents also get emergency treatment,” he said.

On his part NTSA General Director Francis Meja called on  Kenyans to observe road safety regulations.

“Road safety is a collective responsibility and I must commend the media for the dissemination of information to the public and call upon you to continue educating the public on the same so that we can reduce the road carnage,” he said.

This even as NTSA embarks on regulating the rising cases of accidents through defining areas of operation for vehicles across the country.
