Speaking at Naivasha town when she met disabled persons on Sunday, Mbugua said persons with disabilities have been empowered and that they should not get ashamed of their disability.

Mbugua said that the constitution recognises the rights and welfare of people living with disability.

“Persons Living with Disabilities should not get ashamed and allow yourselves to be intimidated by anyone because the constitution protects your rights,” she said.

The nominated MCA stated that vying for leadership positions will give persons living with disabilities an opportunity to contribute to policy making and development.

She observed most people living with disabilities have skills and education that can be used to improve the socio-economic status of the society.

“There are many leadership positions being advertised both in public and private sector which people living with disabilities should apply for,” said Mbugua.

The MCA intimated that the welfare of persons living with disability will be protected if they are in leadership.

Mbugua at the same time urged persons living with disability to report cases where they are discriminated upon saying that there are laws that protect them from discrimination.

She urged the Nakuru government to fight for the rights of the people living with disabilities and engage them on development activities taking place the county.
