Nakuru County Association for Physically Disabled Persons chairman, Fred Owuoko wants the national government to establish a special development kitty for the disabled.
Speaking to Journalists at Nakuru town on Wednesday, Mr Owuoko noted that having a kitty in place for disabled persons will motivate and empower them.
He said that disabled persons have been neglected and sidelined by the government when it comes to empowerment and development.
“We as the disabled persons request the national government to establish a development kitty for our empowerment and growth,” he said.
The chair added that though the government has set in place some empowerment programmes most of the disabled especially in remote areas find it hard to access them.
He stated that having a special kitty for the disabled will ensure they get government support.
The chair also said that disabled persons have a right to be taken care of instead of being abandoned.
Mr Owuoko said disabled persons have skills and expertise which could help promote development by providing solutions to society problems.
The disabled persons chair urged the Nakuru Assembly to pass laws that will spearhead the interests of person’s living with disabilities in the county.
