Six houses have in the last three days been burnt down over witchcraft related issues in Teret village, Mauche Njoro.

Two houses were burnt down on Sunday while the other four were burnt down last week.

Daniel Singei, whose two houses were burnt down on Sunday  night, said that people on a revenge mission poured  petrol before setting them ablaze shortly before 8.00pm.

He said that his neighbor whose four houses were burnt down last week was unhappy with a decision by local elders to order him to leave the village after he was accused of practicing witchcraft.

He said that he was one of the elders who attended the meeting in which the decision was reached at.

Singei said that he realized his two houses were on fire after he heard a loud explosion.

The elderly man recalled how he tried to salvage several items from the burning houses with the help of neighbors in vain.

“I have lost property worth more than Sh500,000 and I just call on police to launch investigations into the matter,” he said.

Peter Kiprono said that the suspected witch man who has since fled the area together with his family was a watchman at a local dispensary.

He said that members of the public have been complaining about his conduct especially after they realized that he had reared 20 owls in his home.

Kiprono said that the decision to evict the suspected witch man was arrived at after wide consultations.
