Police are in pursuit of a 40-year old man who is on the run after he raped a 12-year old girl in Kibunja, Molo constituency Nakuru County.
The girl, who was defiled by the suspect as she was heading to the shop where she had been sent by her mother, never went back home as the man waylaid her and took her to his house where he committed this heinous act.
Preliminary reports indicated that the man has been pestering the victim for some time, and luring the girl with gifts. Neighbours, who aided in the search for the girl, informed the area chief Hassan Waweru who intervened and took the girl to hospital.
Medical reports confirmed that the girl had indeed been raped. The suspect is still at large as the locals and police have set out on a mission to arrest him to face the law.
One of the neighbours, who sought anonymity, said that the man had depicted his malicious intentions for some time as he had in several instances given gifts to the young girl.
“She is just a young girl and she was taking him as an uncle since the suspect’s house is a stone throw-away from the victim’s home. He is a well-known man in the village,” the neighbour said.
The suspect is a well-known social misfit who had earlier married, then sent his wife packing and later remarried a sister to the estranged wife.
Police confirmed that they are working round the clock to bring the suspect to book.
