Police in Nakuru on Tuesday evening rescued a young man from an irate mob because he was allegedly caught attempting to steal a gas cylinder from a pick-up at a parking lot along Mburu-Gichua road in Nakuru town.
The young man was spotted by the owner identified as Rose Waithera who had just parked her Toyota DMAx to buy some animal feeds from the nearby shop. Rose confirmed that she had just parked her car and was walking away when she turned back and saw a smartly dressed young man pulling her cylinder from the vehicle. She then raised the alarm which attracted a huge crowd.
The man tried to escape but he was confronted by young men who were near the scene.
"I had just parked the pickup to go buy animal feeds and i had not gone far when i looked behind only to see the man pulling my cylinder. I immediately raised the alarm and the man was confronted by the crowd," said Waithera.
The man was however rescued the police officers who were on patrol before he got a beating from the irate mob. The crowd was reluctant to let the issue go until one of the officers threatened to shoot in the air which caused them to finally disperse.
The young man was then taken to central police station.
