Apart from being known as the ‘Home of Flamingo’s'‘ and a tourist destination due to it’s various attraction sites, Nakuru County is also a city full of talent.

Some of the artists who have portrayed richness in talent have taken over the country by storm and especially through the local TV stations after being presented with various opportunities.

Most of them have displayed their talent through the art industry such as music and comedy, a move that has seen them have a date with high level leaders in the country in addition to being invited to various important functions in the country.

This same talent has also led the same people to be featured in various news and feature articles which are published in local dailies and magazines.

Some of those who have become a household name in Kenya thanks to their talent include:

Professor Hamo

Professor Hamo whose real name is Herman Gakobo, first came to the limelight after he and his four brothers decided to wed on the same day on August 3 2013 at St Peter's Catholic Church in  Kiratina in the outskirts of Nakuru. 

However, it was during the Churchill Show held in Nakuru on September 6, 2015 that his talent was discovered.

The discovery has seen him meet with President Uhuru Kenyatta on various occasions such as during Mashujaa day  on October last year.

Aside from comedy, Prof Hamo is also a musician. He was once part of the Tamasha Band whereby he later joined Vits Band in Nakuru.

Ng’ang’alito

Ng’ang’alito whose real name is Bernard Ng’ang’a became a household name and one of the most loved contestants of the Tusker Project Fame season 3. 

During the season, Ng’ang’alito became the ladies favourite candidate, thanks to his dance and his singing talent.

Although he did not win the competition, he landed a job at Citizen TV. 

Some of the songs he is popularly known for are Nisamehe in which he also features Ameleena,and Nowe Wiki , a Kikuyu song.

Avril

Avril or Judith Nyambura, a beauty from Nakuru has talent to reckon with. 

According to the beauty who is a household name especially to youth, her stage name, Avril, the French name for the month April,  is related to her birthday month and not from the international singer, Avril Lavigne.

The Nakuru born songbird became famous after she was signed up by Ogopa Deejays where she released the songs Mama and Kitu Kimoja. 

The University of Nairobi graduate in design is also famed for the song Hakuna Yule, among other songs.

Evelyn Wanjiru

The name may not immediately come to mind but once you hear songs Zaidi ya Yote and Waweza, you will immediately realise that you are familiar with her work.

According to her Facebook profile information, she is song writer, who together with her husband and producer Agundabweni Akweyu, co-founded Bwenieve Production. 

She is the fourth born in a family brought up in Nakuru's Kenya Freehold estate though born in Nairobi. 

She attended St Mary’s Girls Primary and Langalanga Secondary in Nakuru, where she was deeply involved in drama and the school's choir. 

She later joined Tears Group, Nakuru, for a course in music and entrepreneurship.

In addition, the profile info states that she benefited from the government of Kenya’s Talent Academy class of 2010 held at Kabarak University, Nakuru where she emerged as the overall best student.

As a gospel musician, Wanjiru says she prays that the name of Jesus Christ will be magnified above all else, throughout the earth and the heavens, from generation to generation

Alvan Gatitu

Though his name seems to have been forgotten by most people, this gentleman who hails from Kiratina in the outskirts of Nakuru graced our TV screens in the Tusker Project Fame Season one held in 2006. 

He was one of the finalists in the Tusker Project Fame Academy.

Some of his songs include Nitakungojea, Kuhani and Nie ni Ngwenda (I want to) which is done in Kikuyu.

These are just some of the artistes whose talents has seen them reach far and wide and who have made Nakuru, a county that one is proud to be associated with.
