A Nakuru based publisher has come out to criticize Kenyan women, who he claims have poor reading culture.
Zack Musembu, also a literary activist and Managing Director of Focal Publishers, Nakuru said that women are more interested in material on entertainment and fashion as opposed to news on current affairs or other literary works.
Speaking while addressing participants at the Kenya National Library ‘Reading Tent Week’ Musembi observed that women disliked any form of serious reading, claiming that they spend their time indulging in Nigerian and Mexican soap operas.
“Most women are into material that does not add value to their lives, rarely do you find them reading the news or any sort of professional materiel, “he said.
Mr Musembu who also represents Kenya in the continental African Publishers Network (APNET) claimed that men were actively involved in socio-economic and political affairs as a result of being more informed. He further went on to urge young women in various institutions to break away from the existing ‘poor reading culture’.
