A section of youths from Nauru town on Tuesday condemned the police for using too much force to disperse Cord supporters who had marched to the IEBC offices to protest.

Cord wants  the IEBC commissioners to quit office claiming they have lost trust in the commission. However, the police had warned the protesters against holding demonstrations.

According to the youths, the police should not interfere with the peaceful demonstrations. They accused the officers of using too much force to disperse the protesters.

‘What we are seeing on television should not be happening. The police are hitting the protesters who should not be hit. I wonder why they should beat the innocent people to an extend of seeing blood oozing out of someone's body. The government should think again,’ said Anthony Kigiru.

Rita Ngoya also said the Interior ministry should advise the police on where and when to apply such force because they are misusing their privileges.

Richard Mudavadi, however, said the citizens should be keen on advise and cautions.

He called on Cord leaders to seek alternative and approved ways of removing the IEBC commissioners from office rather than holding protests which further lead to innocent people being hurt by police.
