A section of Nakuru residents on Friday criticised the county government over the stalled Wi-Fi project within Nakuru town. During the county-based Sasa Hivi live programme that airs on KTN, the residents accused the county government of playing cheap public relations with empty promises. A student leader at Egerton University, Martin Muhoro, asked the governor to explain to residents what had happened to the internet project he had announced would stir up the ICT industry and services in the town. The county’s minister in charge of Information Communication Technology, Peter Mbae, who was called upon by Governor Kinuthia Mbugua to react to the queries, amid boos and shout downs from angry members of the public, tried to explain why the project stalled. The minister explained that the project was a brain child of Statehouse but not an initiative of the county government. “We have to be clear on the origins of the project. It was not our initiative but a central government’s,” Mbae said. “We had no control over it and neither can we do anything to revive it. We shall have to be patient,” Mbae said while denying claims that the county government diverted money that was received from the central government for the project.
