Nakuru residents have raised a red flag over the increased road blocks in the area.

They cited that the police were erecting illegal road blocks to fleece them their cash.

“We have more than three road blocks in an area of less than 60 kilometers along the Nakuru – Nairobi highway. We also have one along KITI area in the Nakuru – Nyahururu highway,” says Timothy Mwaura.

For now residents are demanding to know who has authorised the erection of the road blocks.

“When police officers go broke they erect road blocks forcing residents to give them cash,” claims Ann Mwakio.

They now want the National Police Authority to investigate the issue.

“We need to know who they are and what authority they have to control the roads,” said Peter Mungai.

However, one of the police officers on the ground, who sought anonymity, said that they had been authorised to carry out the checks.

“We were stationed here by the area Police boss and we will carry out checks in all vehicles. Those saying we are here illegally are the people who do not appreciate any police service and are always the first to criticise us incase something goes wrong,” said the source.
