Witnesses claim the accident occurred because the driver of the matatu was overspeeding. Angry residents torched the matatu.

"The matatu driver claimed that his brakes were faulty thus causing the accident. The driver has also caused three motorcycle accidents prior to this one," added the witnesses.

Nakuru OCPD Joshua Omukata confirmed the incident.

"The Bodaboda operator was carrying a female passenger and he died on the spot when the accident occurred. Thereafter, members of the public set ablaze the matatu. We are following up the case. The lady has a fractured leg and she is already in hospital,"Omukata said.

He has however warned members of the public against taking such action in future.

"The second case we are investigating is arson. That is a criminal offence and we have already instituted the investigations into that matter,’

The lady is currently undergoing treatment at War Memorial Hospital whereas the bodaboda operators body is at the Nakuru County hospital.
