As such the use of Automated Teller Machines cards to pay bills is also on the increase.
At coffee shops, at the supermarkets, at petrol stations and even more recently in churches, people are swiping their cards.
This, however, has led to an increase in fraudulent activities by attendants.
The fraudsters using a machine that gets the customers details making it easy to skim money from them.
Therefore it is important to use your ATM card safely. When shopping, always cover your hand when keying in the PIN number at the points of sale or tills.
Carol Nyambura, a Nakuru resident and former banker says: “Nakuru residents should always be on the lookout. Never lose sight of the card at the till. If possible, ask for the machine to be brought to you especially at restaurants.”
Ms Nyambura insists that it is easy to be distracted when transactions are taking place and that is when the deceitful attendants take advantage.
They are usually fast and swift, making it hard to notice any fishy activities.
