Kamau said this today (Friday) when he presided over the commissioning of a borehole at Umoja Estate in his area of representation.

According to the MCA the County Assembly rarely debates on issues that have been petitioned by members of the public even though the law allows for that.

He observed that many members of the public in Nakuru County were not aware of their constitutional rights and it was time they became aware about their rights and roles in public affairs management.

“The County Assembly is established to devolve public services. Members of the public are therefore supposed to take an active role in the house debates because these debates are meant to serve the interests of the public,” said MCA Kamau.

He challenged local opinion leaders to provide awareness to grass-root people about their rights and privileges adding that the Assembly representatives alone cannot establish all matters of public interest.

According to the MCA the county assembly is open to all members of the public to attend and submit petitions for debate.

He noted that by continuously failing to take part in matters of public interest, the public was creating a lee way for abuse of the Assembly by lawmakers.
