Residents of Nakuru have been urged to help the devolved system of government to work properly by actively playing a role in the implementation of policies and passing of laws in the County Assembly.

This was observed today by the Nakuru County Deputy Governor Joseph Ruto when he opened a one day Nakuru Investment Forum at Flamingo Hotel on Thursday.

The Deputy Governor observed that the devolved government could only succeed in the right way, if its functions were directly aimed at providing services to residents of the county.

He noted that the law gives citizens powers to make direct contributions in the way the county government runs its affairs, and urged Nakuru county residents to take note of such constitutional provisions.

“The national law gives ‘wanachi’ a clear mandate of having a direct influence in the county government affairs. The office of the governor, all ministries and the County Assembly are not ivory towers but open to the public at all times,” said the Deputy Governor.

“Members of the public must monitor, give suggestions or even object the government policies at all times. They should actively take part in the affairs of the County Assembly. By so doing, they will be playing a big role, as is expected of them, in the running of the devolved government,” he added.
