Nakuru residents have been urged to vote for people from their locality in the next general election.
This calls were made by a group of various experts from different fields, who cited that majority of the current leaders do not understand the problems facing the county.
The Experts, who discuss and monitor issues affecting the county on a WhatsApp Page called “The Analysts’ pointed out that the current crop of leaders were from different parts of the country, and hence were not conversant with the issues the residents faced.
“Our governor Kinuthia Mbugua is from Daggoreti and hence is not aware of issues like water shortage and open sewers, which are a main problem to us,” said Kio Kinuthia,
Kinuthia pointed out that the county lagged behind because such leaders had not gone to the grassroots to see the main problems affecting the people.
“It is absurd that they do not even know issues like lack of sanitary towels and toilet shortage in schools are affecting the children. Only a person who has lived in this area will be able to raise and address such issues,” he cited.
Elijah Kinyanjui pointed out that many of the leaders also lived in Nairobi, and had not visited their constituents after elections.
“They only come when there is a special occasion, but seeing them in the town is a rare opportunity,” he quipped.
Victor Ngatia, a resident, cited that the ‘importation’ of leaders from various counties had seen Nakuru fail to speak as a united county.
“There is not time that an issue was raised in parliament affecting Nakuru County. The leaders who rule us raise only issues that affect them hence we lag behind in development,” he noted.
