Nakuru residents have now turned to social media to keep their government on toes.
WhatsApp Application is the commonly used; for now residents have two active WhatsApp groups Nakuru Analysts and Nakuru Kingmakers.
The groups, which consist of various experts drawn from all over the county have been eliciting debates on the issues affecting the county.
Elijah Kinyanjui, a journalist, and the brains behind the Nakuru Analyst was the first one to come up with such an initiative.
“I wanted a platform of 100 serious people who affect the day to day running of the county. I also sought to get answers on issues affecting Nakuru residents hence creating this page,” said Kinyanjui.
He adds that the platform hosts journalists, civil society, the county government officials and various Nakuru experts. Kinyanjui pointed out that the main idea was to raise issues affecting the residents and seek for solution.
“I wanted to give residents a platform to criticize the government and even to congratulate them when they have done something good,” notes Kinyanjui.
Joseph Ngugi, also a former journalist, who started Kingmakers, said that his main agenda is to educate residents on good leadership.
“I wanted them to be able to analyze and criticize their leaders. This will help us to get good leaders in the next general election,” said Ngugi.
