Nakuru County chief health officer Doctor Samuel Mwaura has revealed that plans are underway to construct rehabilitation centre in the area.
Mwaura said the county has agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Authority for the Campaign against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (Nacada) to start the centre which will be constructed in Gilgil.
Addressing journalists at Nakuru War Memorial Hospital, Mwaura said that they had already submitted proposals seeking to have the centre start its work.
The health expert said that they were also considering the construction of a gender and crisis centre.
Mwaura observed that the centre will benefit youths who are heavily addicted to drugs and alcohol.
"Many of our youths have resorted to the substance abuse which can be corrected if realised soon enough," notes Mwaura.
The increased cases has lead to Members of the County Assembly seeking to be involved in the fight against the illegal brews which they said has lead to loss of manpower in the area.
Kapkures MCA Jacob Langat raised concern over the increased cases of addiction to local brews in the area.
“Majority of the youths are addicted to the brews which hinders their productivity. Many refuse to work hence increased cases of poverty,” said Langat.
