Speaking during the AGM of Muungano Trust, regional coordinator Francis Mwangi said more than 50 children from the slum had been registered as beneficiaries of the education fund, which will cater for children in nursery schools and lower primary levels.

He said that many children in informal settlements fail to go to school due to poverty, which renders them destitute and uncertain future trends.

“Muungano Trust is dedicated to elevating the livelihoods of the marginalised. We encourage parents to work hard to take over from where we will stop. But we pray to God that we continue supporting the children to acquire education so that they can overcome poverty in future,’’ said Mwangi.

He observed that many slum children who grow into young adults without schooling indulge in irresponsible behaviours such as crime, drug abuse, unwanted pregnancies and early marriages which altogether ruin their lives.

Muungano Trust is sponsored by international donors and engages in advocacy, settlements, savings and charity activities targeting slum dwellers and other marginalised people across the country.
