The county government is committed to offering clean and affordable water to residents in all informal settlements, Lucia Kinuthia has said.
Speaking over the weekend at Engashura Primary School after officiating a handing over ceremony of water tanks to area residents, the governor's wife exuded confidence that cholera and other water borne diseases will be a non-issue to Nakuru residents if the water tank project is embraced.
She noted that the project would be a milestone in breeding a healthy and productive society which will in turn be an important component in development.
“Bringing these tanks is one thing, making good use of them is another, my plea to you is that you use them to make your lives better,” she advised.
Mrs Mbugua advised mkokoteni water vendors not to engage in crime now that the project posed a direct threat to their business, saying that other income generating jobs were always at their disposal.
“I understand the fact that with water available here, our young people who fetch water from the river and sell around here will lack something to do, crime is never an option, we have other good and sustainable businesses that they can engage themselves in to fend for a living,” she said.
The tanks will be placed at different strategic primary and secondary schools and will serve the surrounding communities.
The water tank project is an initiative of the Kinuthia Mbugua Foundation funded by the county government, personal contributions and other donors.
