Nakuru County government has spent more than Sh200 million in the past two years to pay school fees for the poor and needy secondary school students, Governor Kinuthia Mbugua has disclosed.

At the same time, Mbugua called on those managing bursaries disbursed by the county and Constituency Development Fund (CDF) to consider only the needy to ensure that the fund achieves its intended goal of transforming the lives of the poor students.

However, he said the funds donated by the county government as not enough and thanked education partners such as Equity who recently sponsored 120 students from the county to join form one this year f through its 'wings to fly’ programme.

He called on other well-wishers emulate Equity Bank and help more needy pupils. This year the county government has issued cheques worth more than Sh 800,000 to 12 needy students joining form one.

The governor said that his government was committed to improving the lives of the residents and reduce poverty levels through ensuring that school children from the County access quality education.
