More than 2,000 squatters at Oljorai settlement scheme in Gilgil, Nakuru county have urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to help them get their titles before the election on October 17.

According to the squatters, prominent people in the government are taking advantage of their status to oppress them.

Speaking in Nakuru on Thursday, the squatters said they have been living in deplorable conditions and pleaded with president Uhuru Kenyatta to resettle them before the October, 17 repeat polls.

They claimed the influential people in the government have been colluding with land brokers to sell their property, saying they are afraid they will soon have nowhere to live.

“We were born and brought up at Oljorai. We know no other home and we call on the government to help us get titles,” said a squatter, Anna Angala .

They asked National Land Commission chairperson Muhammad Swazuri to push their matter to the president so their troubles can end once and for all.
