The Nakuru County Assembly Committee on Agriculture has issued a two weeks’ notice to 6 sub-county administrators to explain how they used funds disbursed to them meant for Agricultural extensions but were instead diverted to other uses.

The six administrators were on Tuesday grilled by the Nakuru County Assembly committee on agriculture.

During the exercise, it emerged that the sub-county Administrators from Gilgil, Rongai, Njoro, Kuresoi South, Nakuru Town East and Nakuru Town West used the money to fuel their vehicles and purchase refreshments during Governor Kinuthia Mbugua’s mashinani outreach programme leaving Veterinary, Fisheries and Agricultural officers grounded to handle even vaccination emergencies.

The Chair Nakuru County Assembly Committee on Agriculture who is also the MCA for Kabazi Waithaka Mwangi was furious after the Rongai sub-county Administrator Solomon Marue failed to explain how the funds were used in his area.

“It really hurts that money meant for Agriculture can be embezzled by the administrators who fail to account for it,” he said.

His sentiments were echoed by Lake View ward MCA Wanyoike Wanango who said it was wrong for funds meant for Agriculture to be used for refreshments and leisure by few individuals.

His Mariashoni counterpart Agnes Salimu called on the administrators to ensure they have all the requirement documents so that the matter can be solved once and for all without wasting time for the committee members.
