The over 20 health centres, 8 hospitals and 108 dispensaries do not have staff to attend to residents appropriately.

Kuresoi, Naivasha and Molo are the most affected regions despite the fact that most of the health facilities are well equipped.

Dr Oren Ombiro of the Ministry of Health in Naivasha cited that in the last financial year the area received five dispensaries but no staff.

“In fact only two are in operation as we cannot afford to staff all of them. The nurse is forced to carry out all the other activities including cleaning and watching after the premises,” he said.

Nakuru Chief executive for Health Samuel Mwaura cited that the county concentrated on the constructions of the facilities in their first financial year.

He cited that this year they will concentrate more on staffing the facilities.

“Staffing of hospitals has always been a great issue and we especially considered it in our health budget for this year. We will disburse adequate staff especially in the rural based hospitals to ensure that they run adequately,” he said in an interview.
