Addressing tenants in Kivumbini ward on Monday, Nakuru East Neighbourhood Association Francis Shinali said lack of understanding of tenants' rights has led to conflict in various plots.

"We all live in rentals and we have heard of conflicts between us and landlords, but this is due to a misunderstanding of tenants and landlords' rights,"Shinali said.

Shinali also called on landlords to respect the tenants and to maintain good relationship among themselves.

"Landlords should also respect the tenants, you cannot just wake up one day and impose high rent on the tenants without informing them the procedure or even a notice,"said Shinali.

His sentiments were echoed by Green view Nyumba Kumi chair Stanley Karanja who called for understanding among landlords and tenants.

The meeting was called by tenants after they raised concerns of landlords raising rent without following the law.
