Nakuru county government has launched a campaign to boost the number of pupils enrolling in public primary and nursery schools in the region.
Raymond Komen, Nakuru County education executive said the number of pupils who have enrolled in public primary schools is low despite the fact that the government is offering free day primary education.
“Nakuru has a low number of pupils who have joined public primary and nursery schools. We have plans to boost the enrollment by providing food in schools for the kids to eat especially in hardship and drought-hit areas,”Komen said.
Komen announced that the county will also hire 350 nursery school teachers before the end of this financial year.
“We will hire more 350 nursery teachers to boost service delivery. Parents should ensure their children are enrolled in schools to avoid unnecessary arrests,” he added.
He said the county will introduce a special allowance for teachers working in hardship areas such as Rongai sub-county.
