The campaign through the ministry of health will focus at educating women on the importance and need of seeking maternal health services from hospitals. It will be officially launched in Nakuru Next month after the conclusion training of health officials who will be part of the campaign.

Speaking on Monday afternoon during a maternal health workshop at a Naivasha hotel, head of preventive health at the ministry of health Dr Jackson Kioko said they settled on Nakuru because of the efforts it has shown in fighting maternal deaths.

“The number of maternal deaths in the country have greatly reduced. The rate in some regions is worrying and because our target is to have zero maternal deaths by 2030, the government has decided to mount a massive educating campaign to educate the society on the need of seeking maternal health services from health facilities,” said Kioko.

Nakuru county health executive Daniel Mungai said that the county is ready and willing to teach other counties what they can do and the steps they can take in reducing maternal deaths.

“In Nakuru, we have achieved a lot in terms of maternal death reduction but we are yet to reach our target,” said Mungai.
