The Nakuru county government will spend Sh3.5 million to reintroduce the nursery school feeding program in an attempt to persuade parents to bring their children back to school.
Nakuru county governor Kinuthia Mbugua said that the reintroduction of the Nursery school free school feeding program would roll out in the next term.
Kinuthia cited that this would help boost the basic education standards in the county.
“We want to ensure that all the children can be able to read and write well. The worry of children dropping out of school because they did not have anything to eat drove us to carry out the initiative,” Kinuthia said.
Kiniuthia said that the building of more Early Childhood Development centres in remote areas of the county was boosting school attendance.
“Over 149 ECDE classrooms have been constructed. We also have an initiative to dress for school at least 2,000 needy children across Nakuru County`s rural areas as a way of encouraging enrolment and performance of these children,” Kinuthia said.
He added that they had also released bursary cheques totalling Sh52 million to enable more than 17,000 students complete their education.
He called on parents to ensure that their children went to school, citing that the majority of the parents in rural areas still did not understand the importance of educating both the boy and girl child.
