The new polio vaccine known as Inactivated Polio Vaccine will replace one of the three oral vaccines linked to paralysis.

According to a press release to media houses, the polio campaign will be conducted in Nakuru East and West sub-counties and it will target 78,000 children under five.

The county's department of Health has also stated that health workers will be visiting homesteads to administer the vaccine to the target group, adding that all health facilities, both faith-based and public within the sub-counties will also be immunising sites.

On February 11, 2016, the Health ministry launched the new polio vaccine.

Speaking at the launch of the new vaccine at Ihura Stadium in Murang’a county, the director of Medical Services Jackson Kioko stated that the new vaccine will be introduced this April.

He also added that the new vaccine will be initially introduced in 11 counties with a high risk of polio outbreak.
